Frequently asked questions
Here are some answers to common questions I'm asked. I hope you find this helpful, but if you still have a question, please do get in touch.
Family FAQs
Where will the session take place?
Studio sessions are done in my home studio in historic Foxhall Village , the charming Tudor neighborhood nestled between Georgetown and The Palisades and near the French and German Embassies.
Location session are available in spring and fall in several locations. I am adjacent to Glover Archbold Park, which has many beautiful spots, the Georgetown University campus is within walking distance, and I have another spot along the river. If you are interested in a location session, we will discuss locations in our initial phone call, and we will schedule a rain date as well.
Do you help us plan for the session?
Absolutely! I run a full-service photography studio and guide you through the entire experience. I come to your home for a full Design Consultation to discuss who we are photographing, the style that best fits your family and your home, and where your images will live – on your walls or in a custom-designed album or portrait box. During your Design Consultation, we select a date for your session. Before I leave, I take photos of your walls so I can show you mock-ups of your images during your Selection appointment. The mock-ups help you choose the appropriate size and placement. Of course we also talk about what everyone should wear for the session.
What happens after the session
About a week after the session, you have your Selection Appointment where you see a slideshow of your images set to music. The slideshow also includes my suggestions for the wall art we discussed during your Design Consultation. We’ll go through your images and select your favorites. Go with your emotions – choose the images you react most strongly to. We look at different sizes and frame treatments until you are happy. If you chose an album, I have it designed for you to look at and modify until you are happy. At this point, we finalize your order. Full payment is due at this appointment and must be received before I place your order.
What if I love all my images
That’s my goal, of course. But you need to leave room on your walls for future portraits as your children grow and change. Most people create albums of the images they can’t walk away from. Or they collect images in a Portrait box, which holds 20 matted images and doubles as a rotating portrait frame. Just change the portrait in the window whenever you are in the mood for something different.
Do you provide digital files?
I provide a digital file meant for sharing on social media or with relatives and friends for every image you purchase as a printed product. These files are also suitable for digital frames.
How long does it take to get my order?
Orders typically take 4-6 weeks to deliver as all images are hand retouched before they are printed, wall art is custom printed and framed, and albums and portrait boxes are handcrafted in Italy.
Heirloom FAQs
What is the appropriate age for these portraits?
This session is for children from the time they can sit up, while they still have baby teeth, and into early adolescence. I especially love it as a 1-year-old milestone portrait.
Can I use my own clothing?
Of course! If you have clothing you love for this style, we use that. If not, I have a client closet.
Do you offer a client closet?
I do! I have simple white smocked dresses from size 18 months to 5T for girls. For boys, I have shirts with navy piping around the Peter Pan collar in sizes from 12 months to 4T or white oxford shirts from size 12 months to 3T.
How long is the session?
These sessions are usually about 20 minutes. Of course, all children are different and we want to bring out the best in them. How do we make it happen? A little bit of peek-a-boo, a touch of silliness, and a generous sprinkling of magic! It lasts as long as your children can handle and until we get what we need.
Headshots FAQs
What should I wear for my headshot?
Choosing the right attire for your headshot is crucial. Opt for clothing that aligns with your professional image your industry. Solid colors or subtle patterns generally work well, avoiding bold, distracting prints. Dress in a way that reflects your personal style while remaining polished and appropriate. I send you my Headshot Session Guide as soon as you book.
Should women wear makeup for a headshot?
For headshots, natural-looking makeup can enhance your features and give you a polished appearance. Avoid makeup styles that are completely different from your normal professional appearance. Opt for a clean, well-groomed look that accentuates your best features while maintaining a professional aesthetic.
Will my headshot be retouched?
Yes, I retouch every image before I deliver it to you. It typically involves removing minor blemishes and color correction.
How long will the session be?
I strive to be efficient with your time. The session will last at most an hour, but typically about 30 minutes. We try a few different poses to see what looks best, then we go for the best expressions in that pose. If you want multiple looks, it will take more time.
